Home, it belongs in our hearts. The smell of freshly baked bread and the warmth of a cozy blanket takes us home. Each day, we return to this place of comfort and rest...

Night Float Week
I've been on night float all week long for OB/Gyn rotation. Honestly, it's been such a rough week. I can't talk about the specifics but some of the deliveries have been really tough. As a medical student, my responsibilities are limited but I still feel the weight of things. Around the hospital, there's always a lot of finger pointing when anything goes wrong and no one really does anything about it. Anyways, I learned a lot this week in terms of what is my responsibility and what isn't. Sometimes we just have to learn to be smart and protect ourselves while protecting the right of our patients. Ultimately, I don't want to lose sight of why I am doing what I am doing. When we see the tears of joy in the eyes of our patients, we understand that this is what is most important. It's going to be a tough road ahead but I just want to remind myself from time to time that ultimately, we have to do what we believe is right, no matter how much pressure and prejudice we face in the workplace. Some things aren't our fault and there is nothing we can do to change the outcome. Understanding this simple fact allows me to divert my energy elsewhere rather than waste time worrying and losing sleep. On the bright side, I helped deliver around 15 babies this week. Last night we received 16 babies and I delivered 4 of them. There was this tiny one with a big head that cries really loud. He was so precious and reminds me of a peanut. We can hear him all the way down the hallway. Anyway, all the babies are super cute. I haven't seen one that wasn't cute. As to what I want to be, the answer is I don't know yet. I really don't know. Whatever I am good at and also happen to like. I think patient interaction is really important to me and so I want to choose a field that allows me to follow my patients and get to know them rather than just performing procedures. Alright, I am going to bed now. Have to switch back to day schedule for next week. Shelf exam is coming up so it's time to buckle down and study!
BTW, someone left me a message!! I think it's SVB over at Digerati Life. Coolness. I never thought anyone would be interested in my blog. I guess when you're just starting off, any little positive encouragement goes a long way. That really made my day :) So if you happen to stumble upon my site, please leave a friendly message or two. I promise I will get a real kick out of it. And come back from time to time because I do blog in b/w night calls and PMS :)
